Support

Cozy Kalimba is made by one small team. There is no ticket queue and no chatbot — an email goes straight to a person, and we read all of them.

It helps enormously if you say which phone you have, which version of Android or iOS it runs, and what you were doing when it went wrong.

Common questions

Do I need an internet connection?

Not to play. The instrument, the samples and the songs are all inside the app, so it works in flight mode, underground and on a phone with no SIM. A connection is needed to show ads in the free version, to buy or restore Cozy Premium, and to send anonymous crash and usage reports — which wait quietly until you are online again.

Do I need an account?

No. There is nothing to sign up for and no email address to give us. Open the app and play.

There is a delay between my touch and the sound.

Almost always this is Bluetooth. Wireless headphones and speakers add 100–200 milliseconds of delay of their own, which no app can remove. Switch to wired headphones or the phone’s own speaker and the delay should disappear.

If it is still slow on wired output, tell us your exact device model. The app uses each platform’s low-latency audio path — AAudio on Android, CoreAudio on iOS — and a device where that is not working is a bug we want to see.

I hear nothing at all.

Check the volume inside the app’s settings as well as your device volume, and check whether your phone’s silent or Do Not Disturb switch is on. If another app is holding the audio output — a call, a voice message, a recorder — close it and reopen Cozy Kalimba.

I reinstalled and lost my progress. Can you restore it?

We cannot restore your progress, and we are sorry. Your settings, favourites and progress live only on your device — we keep no copy. That is the trade for an app with no account and no server. A Cozy Premium lifetime purchase is different: it belongs to your App Store or Google Play account, so sign in to the same account on the same store platform and tap Restore Purchases in Settings to get it back.

How do I delete my data?

Uninstall the app, or clear its storage in your system settings. That removes everything the app kept on your device. You can also switch off diagnostics in Settings → Privacy and change your ad consent in Settings → Ad Privacy. The Privacy Policy has the full picture, including what Google and RevenueCat receive and how to ask about it.

Does the app send anything about me?

Three kinds of thing. Anonymous crash and usage reports, which tell us the app crashed or that someone finished a lesson — never who. In the free version, the data Google AdMob needs to show ads, which can include your advertising identifier where you allow it; where the law requires it you are asked first, and you can change your answer in Settings → Ad Privacy. And if you buy Premium, the purchase details needed to confirm Cozy Premium — never your card. Diagnostics switch off in Settings → Privacy → “Help Improve Cozy Kalimba”. The full detail is in the Privacy Policy.

Can I record what I play?

Yes, as notes. The Record button in Free Play saves a take of what you played and plays it back on the instrument. There is no audio file export yet — for a video, your phone’s built-in screen recorder captures the sound perfectly well.

Can I use the sound in a video I publish?

Yes. Anything you play is yours, commercially or otherwise, and you owe us nothing for it. The one thing you may not do is redistribute the raw samples as a sample pack — and if that is what you want, the underlying FreePats kalimba bank is public domain and free to download directly. Section 4 of the Terms of Use spells this out.

Why can’t I play a particular song?

A kalimba has seventeen keys in one scale, so it genuinely cannot reach every melody. Rather than let a song fail halfway through, the app checks each one against the instrument and shows the reason next to any it cannot play.

Is it free? Are there ads?

It is free to download and play, and the free version shows ads. Cozy Premium is an optional one-time lifetime purchase that unlocks every premium song, lesson and Zen scene and removes all ads. You pay once, with no automatic renewal or recurring charge. On a premium song you can also watch a short ad to open it for 24 hours. The Terms of Use cover purchases, restores and refunds.

Are more songs coming?

Yes. We only add melodies that are in the public domain or written for the app, which keeps the pace honest rather than fast. If there is something you would like to learn, tell us.

Where do the sounds come from?

From the FreePats kalimba bank, a real instrument recorded note by note and released under CC0. Each of the seventeen tines has three separate recordings that the app rotates between, so a repeated note does not sound mechanical. The licence and its provenance are inside the app, on a screen you can read.

Reporting a bug

Please include your device model, your Android or iOS version, the app version from the settings screen, and what you did just before the problem. If it is something you can see, a screen recording is worth a hundred words. We reply to everything, usually within a few days.

Thank you for playing ♡
