The whole instrument, one tap from anywhere. It is tuned to C major, so there is no such thing as a wrong note.

A recorded instrument, not a synthesiser
Every tine is a real kalimba, sampled note by note. The engine's only job is to get out of the way between your thumb and the sound.
Answers immediately
Samples are held in memory and played through the platform's low-latency path — AAudio on Android, CoreAudio on iOS. A tine sounds when you touch it, not a beat later.
Never the same twice
Each tine holds three separate recordings and rotates between them. Repeat a note and it breathes the way a real one does, instead of machine-gunning the identical sample.
Behaves around real life
A phone call, Siri, or headphones pulled out of the socket. The audio session ducks, pauses and comes back where it should — it does not keep playing into a room you left.
Chords, not just notes
Press several tines at once and every one of them rings. The voice pool is sized for the full instrument sounding together, with the oldest note fading rather than cutting.
Portrait or landscape
Hold it however you like. Turn the phone sideways and the instrument takes the whole screen, with hit areas comfortably larger than the tines you can see.
Honestly licensed
The samples come from the FreePats kalimba bank, released under CC0. The licence and its provenance ship inside the app, on a screen you can read.

Bundled melodies, free from day one
Every bundled melody is public domain or written for this app. A song the seventeen keys cannot reach is listed with the reason rather than left to fail halfway through.
Your progress stays on your phone
There is no server of ours and no sign-in screen. What the app remembers — your settings, your songs, your progress — lives on your own device, and uninstalling takes it with you. The free version shows ads from Google AdMob, and where the law asks for it you choose how your data may be used for them; Cozy Premium removes them entirely. Anonymous crash and usage reports can be switched off in Settings.
